One night I woke up and had to go to the bathroom. As a fairly heavy sleeper, I knew that even in a sleep fog if I was waking up in the middle of the night I must really have to go and better get to it. So I did and returned to bed like you do. But as I was climbing back into bed dr soc stirred and was slightly confused to find me getting back into bed since me getting up in the middle of the night is a rarity in the first place.
--Note: this entire conversation occurred with us both in half-sleep-mode and was done with sleepy slurs and hazy logic in it's entirety--
dr soc: did you just go to the bathroom?
me: Yeah. Go back to sleep honey.
dr soc: Ok. Wait..did you turn on the light?
me: No. Turning on the light can wake you up more and I want to go back to sleep.
dr soc: Oh ok. ~pause~ You can go to the bathroom without a light? How?
me: I don't have to aim honey.
dr soc: Oh. Right. Goodnight.
--A while later.--
We had gotten back from the gym or were getting ready in the morning or something that required a shower. I flipped on the shower light, turned on the water and Mike put our towels on the hook while we waited for the water to warm up to the (my) preferred scalding temperature.
mike: I turned off the shower light.
me: Why? I like the shower light.
mike: You do? What exactly do you do in the shower that you need light for? Do you need it to aim or something?
me: No...But I do need it if I'm shaving. Or something.
mike: Ok, but are you going to shave this shower?
me: I don't think so, but I still like the light.
--Mike gives me a look--
me: So I can pee the dark but not shower in it. Okay maybe that's a little weird but so what?
mike: Nothing.... Would you like me to turn the light back on then?
me: Yes. Yes I would.
mike: Ok. ~flips the light back on, smiling~ You weirdo.
me: Thank you. And yes, yes I am.
--We went on vacation last week and we were checking out the bathroom of the rental house--
mike: Oh, and you will be happy to know there is a shower light in our bathroom. A very bright one too.
me: Yes!

Casanova
Our next door neighbors (not the ones I hoped were related to the president. The other side) broke up the same time Mike and I were sending out our wedding invites. (Seriously, we were about to hand them theirs when the guy told us he was moving out.) Apparently it hadn't been working for a while, she's really focused on her career and has to travel a lot for it, but they are going to try to remain friends. Sure. That's what they all say, until one person starts seeing someone else. But they were together 5 years, probably weren't ready to throw in the towel completely, and every now and again we would see the guy's truck in the driveway. Mike or I (sometimes both) would notice and comment to each other, wondering if a reunion was possible.
But one morning a while back as I was leaving for work, I noticed someone had left a bouquet of flowers on the windshield her work car. (When we see that car we know she's home since it's parked on the street or in her driveway.) And the flowers had been placed there after a bunch of people had been over, but none of those cars had been the guy neighbor's truck. But we did notice one car in particular stayed longer than all of them. And that it showed up again a few weeks later, and so did another bunch of flowers after it left.
Hmmm. How intriguing. So now whenever Mike or I sees the Casanova car we point it out to the other and we are just downright curious of who this Casanova is. Speculating who it is, how they met, if truck neighbor knows and how he feels, or is he's Casanova-ing someone else too.
You know, it's kinda fun spying on the neighbors!

Ear Worm
mike: You coming to bed?
me: Yeah, just once second, I want to request the right cd from the library before I forget.
mike: Call me maybe?
me: Nooo. No....
mike: Mmmhmm.
me: No, really I'm not. Not call me maybe. More so... (small voice) Bieber.
--mike's mouth falls open--
me (defensively): You know I like teenage music.
mike: --hangs head in defeat-- Yes. Yes I do.
me: And you married me anyway. (snort) Sucker!

Step Up
I was putting some clothes away at work and I walked by one of the numerous graphics like you do. I was in then men's athletic section so I wasn't too familiar with the section in general, let alone the graphics. But I saw one on the side of a fixture that caught my eye because the male model looked really familiar to me for some reason.
I thought it may be one of the stock models the brand uses frequently so I had seen him in other ads before. But I've never payed that much attention to Fila so I knew that couldn't be it. So maybe I had seen him in a movie or tv spot recently. And then after mulling it over for a bit, it suddenly dawned on me where I had seen this model:
He was the male lead in Step Up 3D.
And no, I am not ashamed to admit that is where I recognized him from. And, it also explains why he couldn't act either.

Vaniety sizing
--Mike was trying on coats*--
me: That one fits really well on you. --I look at the size tag-- Oh, it's medium. Do you want to try on the large to see how it fits?
mike: Sure --tries on the large-- Hmm, are the shoulders off on this one?
me: They do seem a little to wide for you. I think the medium looked better.
mike: Ok, cool, we'll go with the medium.
me: Can I just say, how much that I appreciate that you have no problems with a medium and don't have a Napoleon complex where you think that by not wearing a large you are less of a man?
mike: Uh, ok. The medium looks better, why wouldn't I get it?
me: I'm just saying. I mean it's really just vanity sizing in male/reverse form.
mike: Vanity sizing?
me: Yeah, women buying smaller sizes because it makes you feel better. I do it. For example, I'll try on a 4 and a 2, and there may be no difference whatsoever in how they they look on me, but I will without fail buy that 2 because it is a 2 and not a 4.** So for guys it's buying a bigger size because they feel more manly in one.
mike: That's stupid.
me: I know. --Sigh-- Don't judge me.
*It's his Christmas present that he already wore. The practical side of me says he should wear it now since the point of a coat is to wear it. But the holiday side of me says he has to wait until Christmas!
** Sigh, I know. The plight of being small.

Statue of Limitations
--while we're registering--
mike: An $80 plate?
me: Yeah, it's a good "couple" gift to give.
mike: Couple gift?
me: A gift you give if you're a couple. Too much for one person to give, but not quite big enough for it to be a group gift.
mike: oh I see. So the mixer is a group gift, but the fancy platter is something that we give.
me: Exactly.
mike: Still, $80 for a plate.
me: I know. Like the time I gave a $70 something silver platter as a wedding present and signed 2 names to the card. And I had already spent $30 on her shower gift. Then the couple goes and divorces less than 2 years later.
mike: Ouch.
me: Yep. To be honest, I kinda want my gift back.

Botulism
It is summer here in the Carolinas, and it is hot. But since I prefer warmer weather to cold, I'm not going to bitch about the temperature. Because it is so hot though, I sweat a lot. I wear an antiperspirant/deodorant, but they only do so much in this kind of heat. Plus, after a while, the smell of the deodorant itself starts to bother me and I need to go a day or two without. It's better for your skin if you skip a day as well, so as long as I'm not going anywhere, everything's copacetic.
This really isn't that big a deal except that I'm getting married (squee!) at potentially hot time next year, and one of the last things I want to be worried about on my wedding day is to be sweating so bad that I stain my dress. And I'm also incredibly vain. So I was pretty intrigued when I heard that you can put botox in key places to control/stop sweating temporarily...
But when I casually mention this to my ex and almost sister-in-law as something I'm considering, they think it's a stupid idea, join forces to gang up on me and start making fun of me for that idea. Not to be deterred, I decided they clealry didn't understand the importance of this and I would take pivotal things like this to my family and inner circle. Because when I told my sister the same idea, her reaction was: the same as mine, intrigue and oooh we should do that. See, that's what I'm talking about. But I didn't marry the ex, and my neither my sister or I ended up getting botox for her wedding a few months later. So I just tucked the idea of temporary botulism away for a while.
Of course I think about it again this wedding. Of course I do. I mentioned it to dr soc and he thinks it's a terrible idea. (Clearly I do not.) However, my sister told me that clinical strength antiperspirant works well if you apply it right, so I've decided to give that a try and not look into the botox thing after all. But don't worry, I shifted my crazy beauty bridal thing from botox to eyelash extensions! (Not to mention a full body wax and maybe a spray tan if I'm not able to get enough sun pre-wedding. Oh don't judge me. I am vain.)

Martha made me do it
So. I'm seriously thinking about making the flowers for my wedding. Yes, even though I just said in the previous post how I didn't want to make anything for my wedding. But I'm thinking about it because I really have no idea what I actually need from a florist, and how much one will cost me.
I google search paper wedding flowers, and the queen of all things homemade, Martha Stewart, is the first link in the queue. I am terrified of Martha Stewart. Even more terrified of her than I am of the knot. But you cannot deny how lovely she makes things! So I keep clicking through the slide show, and I see this great pink bridal bouquet that I want. Martha claims that these bouquets are very easy and take an afternoon to make, but I am dubious that anything Martha claims is easy is actually easy for those of us non-Martha types.
But, I really like that bouquet.... So I click on the learn how to link, and she provides templates, instructions, and a list of materials. And, while I may not have great craft, I at least have craft. I built models all the time when in design school, so I feel as though those skills could transfer somewhat. And I really like that bouquet....
So, I start to price materials out. But I also have the distinct feeling that I really have no idea how big an undertaking this actually may be. It's one thing to say I can make my bouquet. But that bouquet has 30 flowers. And each of those 30 flowers has 6 plus individually cut petals, and a handmade stamen. And then, I've got to wrap the thing all pretty. It's suddenly not so simple. But that's what makes it a Martha! That it looks so deceptively simple and elegant, when it's actually so ridiculously intricate that you end up super gluing your fingers to the wall. Pure Martha!
Instead of running away screaming, I become more and more intrigued. But I don't want to buy a bunch of materials and then not end up doing this. So if I am going to do this, I am not turning back. However, I have feeling that one day Mike will come home from work, see me elbow deep in crepe paper with flower wire sticking out of my hair, and look to me for an explanation. And the only thing I'll be able to say is: Martha made me do this.

Bride-tv
I do not make it a point to watch bride-tv. I watched enough of it in 2008 and after a while it all blurs together as one crazy/stressed/bitchy bride/groom/wedding related personel yelling/crying/bossing around some bridesmaid/family member/fiance after another.
But last night I'm flipping through the guide and I see My Fair Wedding with David Tutera is on. Out of sheer curiosity, I check out the show description and read that this David-guy is going to plan a Pirates of the Caribbean themed wedding.
I was equal parts terrified and fascinated at the same time. And then flipped to it promptly.

Tied in "Knots"
Planning a wedding is daunting for some. Me, not so much. (I have been dreaming of my wedding since I was 6 (yes, I am that girl. And no, you are probably not surprised by that)). As soon as I was in sight of the tulle vortex, I took off squealing like a kid in a candy store and didn't look back. (nope, didn't even pretend to hold it back)
There was one place though, that I didn't dare venture to: The knot. The knot terrifies me. I was on the knot for my first wedding and it scared me then too. (Though that could have been due to my apprehensions towards the marriage and that wedding planning was a chore.) I got about 2 step into it before I realized brides be crazy. In a bride's defense, it's very easy to get caught up in all the hoopla, glamor and romance of it all. The wedding industry is a 4 million dollar industry for a reason. The knot saw the market and capitalized on it, it's good business. But still, the site slightly terrifies me. Because I don't want to drink the kool-aid and turn into one of those caricatures who think that the big day is doomed by not having the perfect shade of pink silk hand embroidered by blind nuns.
While I didn't shy away from planning this wedding in the slightest, I still need ideas. I'm very visual and sometimes, you just have to see things to know if it'll work or not. And the knot, has lots and lots of images. Believe me, I wanted to avoid that crazy if at all possible. I google searched and tried to circumnavigate around it (and bing is bullshit, I don't care), but 80% of what I wanted more details on is somehow knot related. You only have to join the site and log in to see anything. So I caved and joined. I put in my email (a new one since dr soc and I have an account for all wedding stuff. Not to mention I can't use my email because it's still linked to my first wedding and ex's name since you can't delete your account. (The knot does not think anyone will calling off a wedding. How could anyone want to do that?)) But I as I hit submit with my info, I grasped for that last strand of defiance and thought: FINE!! I will join the knot. ::stomps off::

Nomad No More
The other day I threw a small cardboard box into the recycling bin. Why is this note worthy you may ask? Because for a very long time, I never broke down a box or threw it away unless it was too damaged to be used again. I've pretty much kept almost every single box I've ever received and still have the original packaging most of my stuff came in.
This mainly started in college. I unpacked my new shiny dorm things from their original containers and then also kept the boxes my mom sent care packages in, Yes, my roommates thought that was a little odd. But when it was time to move out of our dorm room, guess who could pack all of her stuff and had a few left over to share? Yep. In my defense, at the time I was moving a lot. I knew that every place I moved to, I would be moving out of in less than a year and would have to pack everything up all over again. When I was on co-op, I moved every 3 months. But why did I keep the original containers? Because what better way to pack something than in a box specifically shaped for it? Seriously! Ok, little ocd there too.
So yeah, I keep boxes. But I was getting tired of living a nomadic lifestyle. Before I moved to Charlotte I counted how many times I moved, and realized this relocation would be number 20. So I declared it my last move. I would not be packing up all my worldly goods and shoving them into my protegee ever again (also, I had a new car at that point). I don't need to collect or keep anymore boxes. Old habits die hard, but dr soc is fearful I may be slightly a hoarder, so he pushed for me get rid of the packaging. Eventually, recycling these things just came naturally. So when I threw that small box in recycling bin without even thinking, I realized:

Dinner Tonight
So remember that stuff lemon up chicken and get ring mentality I made fun of? (See 6 posts ago.) Guess what I'm making for dinner tonight?
Yep. A lemon roasted chicken. Though this decision was made when I discovered that the frozen chicken in my freezer was not frozen (everything else in in the freezer is ok though which is odd) and I have a bag of lemons that I need to cook with as well. NOT because all I'm fingers crossed and hoping for a ring. Well, I am, but I don't expect this chicken to expedite that. Not because he's not ready, (yes you are honey) but more so because logistically there hasn't been enough time between the initial chicken/ring conversation and now to get something.
Oh, and we're having pie for desert. But that's also due to circumstance and that it's pi day, not the hook him apple pie insurance policy that's attached to the recipe.

B & B
A while ago I suggested to dr soc that we take a little weekend trip for our anniversary. He thought it was a good idea (because all of my ideas are good ideas-though he has yet to agree to this fully), so I started google searching romantic trips for the area I suggested.
Oh la la! So many lovely romantic packages. The services/amenities range from drinks upon check in, flowers in your room, sparking wines, chocolates, massages, gourmet meals, late check out (wink wink), all things that make you feel a little or lot pampered, depending on how much you want to shell out. I noticed though that most of these packages are at an inn, and upon further research (google clicks) I find these are b&bs, not hotels.
I've never stayed at or even looked into a b&b, though I don't know why. Do I have an aversion to them that I don't know about? I remember there must have been some reason I never looked into one, because they all look really cute and feed me breakfast, so why would I not stay there?
So I pose this question to dr soc, because I'm sort of sitting on the fence on this. And maybe he has an aversion to B&B's too and then it would be a moot point. But turns out he's stayed in one and said it was pretty cool. Which I was less than thrilled to learn because I know that means he went with a previous girlfriend. I know this because no strait guy, A: suggests a b&b in the first place, and B: goes alone and without a woman to do dirty things to. (I know everyone has a past as do I. I'm sure dr soc isn't tickled that I was engaged before. But I don't like the thought of my boyfriend being "romantic" with someone else, no mater what the statue of limitations are. And honestly, I don't have any romantic getaways or even stories for anyone to be jealous over anyway. (Is it just me or have I dated some clueless guys?)) I didn't want to know anymore about that rendezvous, but I can't just leave the (texting) conversation hanging. So I come up with some lame: "maybe I don't like b&b's because you have to share a bathroom" excuse and hope I can revisit the idea later (after I get over my jealousy that is). But then he offers up the info that the one he stayed at (w/the ex-girlfriend. Yeah, grr) had a private bathroom as well. (Really, SO glad to know that, grrrr.)
Now fully engaged in competitive mode, I make the choice right then that we are going and I will kick that old girlfriend memory's ass. So there and nanny-nanny-boo-boo. Yes, because that is what the original intention of our romantic anniversary trip was. But as for an explanation of to why I'm not all wishy-washy on the b&b idea anymore I give him this reason: for an in-room massage, I think I can get over my scruples. (Also, I love the word scruples)
Which is true. But I don't have a job so a trip, let alone a romantic one, or anything else that requires funds, isn't in the cards right now. So I completely scraped the idea of a trip and any other plans I may have had for a celebration. So all that research I did in competitive and jealousy mode became the moot point. (To add insult to injury, I found out later that the romantic trip I'm no longer planning was the same place he went with the old girlfriend for their romantic trip. I'm sure you can guess how I reacted to that). Which is too bad because I did find some places/spas that would have been nice. With private bathrooms, promises of waffles and enough Queen Anne decor just so there's no doubt it's an inn. There's always next year I guess. But I still don't know why I didn't like b&b's in the first place.

'Eff You Pet Store Employee.
I was almost out of food for Bailey and petsmart was having an "essentials" sale. Since we were in the area after finding our new local favorite mexican place, (they make guacamole at your table! Too bad dr soc doesn't like avocado.. another blog for another day) so we stoped in to pick up a few things.
I was looking for Bailey's brand of food but it wasn't obvious, so enter the pet store employee (minion).
pet store minion: (friendly) Can I help you find something?
me: (friendly as well because I am nice) Yes, please. Purina dog chow?
psm: (judgy!) ::pause:: Oooo, it's in the next aisle.
me: (fake nicely now that I've been judged) Thank you.
Then, this kid shows/follows me to the next aisle and ask this in his same judgy tone:
psm: So, um, how do you feel about the dog chow? Do you have any problems with it? (is this kid really asking me how I feel about my dog's food? It's and inanimate object and I didn't even know (care) it had feelings)
me: it's fine, and no, no problems. ::pause:: Why? Was there was a recall or something?
psm: well, it's just the grocery store brand and you can get it everywhere (umm yeah, that's why it's convenient and a lot of people buy it). It's mostly grain and doesn't have any as many vitamins and stuff.
me: Uh huh...well, it's what's she's used to. And she's fine.
psm: Have you had any problems with his coat or anything?
me: Not really. And she's perfectly fine.
psm: Well, sure ok. But I can let you know about some of the other food options we have here or help with any questions you may have.
me: I'm good, thanks.
psm: ok...
First: what the hell? Was I just being judged on what my DOG eats?
Second: why does this kid care what I buy, it's not like they work on commission and me buying a more expensive food is going to get him his quota.
Third: the reason she eats what she eats is because it's convenient and quite often on sale somewhere because so many other people buy it too. Purina is doing something right.
Fourth: I also bought a new crate, dog multi-vitamins (that help her coat which psm was so concerned about), breath busters and treats that trip, so my bill was easily over $100. I more than made up for those 20 bones I didn't spend on dog food in other places.
And fifth: 'eff off minion. As a master judger, I clearly know when it is happening to me and I do not find it to be acceptable behavior of people who have not mastered the task. Especially over dog food.

May or May Not
So in the midst of my missing my boyfriend and planning my future, I may or may not have dipped into the bubble of tulle. And then may or may not have gotten sucked into the tulle vortex (not) kicking and (not) screaming. Just like I may or may not have done a google search on possible venues...
I may or may not have compared a few places and their capacity levels. Which naturally did not lead me to wonder how many people would be invited and would come, so I didn't start an excel spreadsheet or anything like that just to get an idea of the number or to compare notes...
But if I had done that, which I totally didn't.....then I may or may not have have found a really good place. And I know it's good because I may or may not have priced different menu items with other places on my nonexistent excel spreadsheet. There's not a chance I figured out the best time frame and potential dates, and there's also a not a chance that I looked at nearby hotels. I may or may not have told my mom the deadline to redo the kitchen would be in time to have the day after brunch. And I may or may not have started planning that menu too.
Just like dr soc hasn't told me what kind of groom's cake he wants. Or how I have the cutest idea for a cake topper. And I totally didn't look at my dress the other day and feel happy and hopeful, which is how you should feel when you look at your wedding gown. No, of course I didn't do any of those things. Clearly I did not get sucked into the tulle vortex or experience any level of bubble of tulle crazy. No. Of course not. Maybe. Or not.

10 years
My 10 year high school reunion is going on right now. I graduated high school 10 years ago. Well, shit.
I'm not at the reunion. I'm in Napa with my bestest friends for their joint 30th birthday celebration. And the way I figure it, the people I wanted to stay in touch with, I have. It wasn't a tough call really, lots of wine with my bestest friends, or cash bar and small talk with a bunch of people I haven't seen in 10 years.
Plus, I don't have a lot to brag about. In the past ten years, I've accumulated about a thousand college credits that mean nothing, a failed engagement, no children, and I've moved 19 times only to end up back in my hometown. Really, the only thing notable that happened to me in the past ten years is that I got hotter. Don't get me wrong, I was still pretty cute in high school. But I know I look better now then I did in high school (default crush told a mutual friend that, before he was default crush and before I was even engaged. (we were drinking) So mutual friend promptly turned around and told me that. Of course she did.)
But I have nothing to put on paper. And well, I don't want to show my hot self until I do.
There's always the 20 year right?

What am I? Chopped Liver?
Being a bartender ups your hot points. But when I bartended at a restaurant in town, I wasn't in the running of viable crushable girls. It was common knowledge that I had an out of town boyfriend (though many coworkers thought he didn't exist because he never came to visit me. I-75 only ran one way didn't you know?), so I was more buddy-buddy then evil-woman-threat at this job. Which was a nice change of pace from my last bartending job (I was a pretty girl behind the bar, clearly I was going to steal everyone's husband/boyfriend). Well anyway, our black polyester shirts and non-slip shoes weren't the most becoming outfits. And I'm off the market anyway, so why did it matter if anyway? I barely gave it a thought. Until my sister came to visit me at work.
I was in the back getting something when she first showed up, and my manager happened to see her first at the bar through the crowds of people. Being a sucker for pretty girls, he approached her (of course) and asked if he could do anything for her. And when she said she was waiting for someone, he knew immediately that it was me, and this was my sister. And being the gossip that he is, soon the whole restaurant staff knew my sister was visiting, and she's HOT!
Suddenly, every male coworker had a drink order or needed something from the bar. Some even just came to say "hi." Uh huh. I got more hellos in a half hour then I had the entire month we had all been working there it seemed. Yes my sister is hot. She knows this. She looks great because we were blessed with the same type metabolism, but she also has a ridiculous work ethic and takes a lot of pride in her athletic capabilities. After she left to do some Christmas shopping, the adoration really started flowing. And I was jealous. Very, very jealous.
I agreed with the first "hey Sarah, hot sister." I agreed with the 2nd. And 3rd, and 4th. But by the 5th in a 10 minute time frame, I was annoyed. So when the manager told me the 800th same thing, I reacted like a very jealous female (much like my former coworkers actually) and snapped out: she's underage!
Which promptly shut everyone up.
It wasn't true, and they called my bluff when they realized I had been serving her at the bar. I sighed and admitted she's 21. "But she's almost engaged, lives in DC and off limits. Besides, she's out of your league anyway." And with that I stalked off and finished my shift.
Sigh, I know I was a coworker which maybe made me even more off limits than my sister, but I guess how many people stopped by to say hi after she left? Yeah. Thanks guys. Lot of good my bartender hot points got me.

Caught Red Handed
I snoop. Not very often, (because it's a dangerous dangerous rabbit hole to fall down) and not in a you shouldn't leave me alone in your house kind of way. But yeah, I'm at least scanning my surroundings. Trust me, I notice a lot. But when presented with a golden opportunity, well.... it's a golden opportunity.
For example, my ex had one of those fireproof lock box things and we had just moved into together. He told me he kept his finances in there and kept the key on his massive janitorial style key* ring. I really didn't think anything about it, but one day he left the key in the lock, and well, I was home alone. I knew he had my engagement ring by that point, but it wasn't in our apartment. He was smart enough to know I would have found it if he hid it there (if there are diamonds, I find them. It's like a 6th sense). But my birthday was coming up and he had hinted heavily I was getting a shiny present for that, so maybe that was in the box! And maybe, just maybe, there would be a picture or a description of my engagement ring in there too! Yes! Of course! This makes perfect sense! Golden opportunity!
Without a second thought, I pull the box down from his closet shelf and open it up. I swear to god, 60 seconds later, he walks through our front door. Knowing I have no time, I decide to distract him and greet him enthusiastically by literally jumping on him while trying to guide him to the living room. But he was not to be deterred, and headed strait to the bedroom to take his tie off, only to see the open box on the bed. (meanwhile, I've slunk off to the kitchen)
x: "Hey babe? Were you snooping?"
me: (knowing I have no way out of this) "Yup"
x: (laughing) "wow, you didn't even try to hide that."
me: (indigent)"well, you caught me red handed." I throw up my (caught and red) hands. "Besides, you left the key in there. And I didn't have enough time to see if there was anything good in there anyway."
x: "well, do you want to see what's in there?"
me: "Oh! Sure."
Old checkbooks and absolutely nothing of shiny sparkly interest.
me: "Hrmphf. Waste of a snoop."
*What he had so many keys for I don't know. He even had the our apartment complex's "fitness center" (snort- an elliptical, treadmill and busted weight machines hardly count as a fitness center. And there were always dirty little kids playing on the equipment or a puffy phlegmy man sitting on the bike watching tv) key on there. Which was pointless because he never went to the gym whereas and I did and needed that key. The one time he went to the center I had to go with him and then he spent the entire time staring at me and then kept trying to touch me while I stretched out. I'm trying to get my muscles to go a certain way and you're attempting to bend me the exact the opposite way. NO touchy when I'm working out!

Target IS my Happy Place
Last week, I noted that Target, my happy place was having a sale on sports bras and other workout wear. My friend and I both do high impact sports, she dances, I run, and as members of the larger chested club* we both value a sports bra that holds 'em in place. And we were both on a shopping kick and happened to both be in need of the sports bras I just mentioned.
So we get to Target after a round of semi-annual sale* shopping and try on a few things just in case. I tried on a pair of black yoga pants (which I am wearing now and am seriously thinking of taking up yoga now for the excuse to buy more of these super comfy and cute pants) and a black running long sleeve top. I delightedly realized I looked like a ninja and in my excitement I yell in the direction of my friend's dressing room: "I look like a ninja!" (Of course, announcing that severely negates my ninja stealth qualities and makes me highly un-ninja like) But anyway, I decide to be prudent and only get one on sale sports bra and the yoga pants, and not the (ninja) running top. To be prudent.
Right.
'Cause then we see super cute patterned * underwear, that we think is on sale across the aisle. My friend realizes that @ $3 a pair, the 5 for $15 they are claiming is not a sale at all, but just cleverly disguised ploy to make us buy more. Sneaky Target, but well played. I only picked 3 though, once again to be prudent.
Uh-huh. because then we check out the seasonal selection and they since January doesn't have any themed holidays, it's just a bunch of bulk products and workout tapes on sale. Nothing caught my eye, until I saw on an end cap giant boxes of fruit snacks. And can I just say I LOVE the Target brand fruit snacks? And, the box was only, get this, $6. For something like 60 individual packets. Clearly, I had to have it.
By that point my friend I realized that we better get out of there since our arms were getting full ** and went to check out. But I'm telling you, I was walking through that store as pleased as punch with my giant box of fruit snacks. And I'm still a little ridiculously happy that it was only $6.So we get to Target after a round of semi-annual sale* shopping and try on a few things just in case. Glee!
"open delight or pleasure, exultant joy, exultation." Also it's a show on Fox.
I had been hearing a decent amount about this show, and that the people that were into it were really into it. But I never found out when it was on, and I had other shows to obsess over, like True Blood and Mad Men (and don't judge me, Keeping up the Kardashians).
So when my girlfriends started talking about Glee, I asked them if it was worth getting into.
Michele: it has singing and dancing!
me: singing and dancing!?!? Why DON'T I watch this show?!
Seriously. Why haven't I been watching this show?
Singing? Check. Dancing? Check. Stereotypical high school characters that I can't get enough of? CHECK! Consider me hooked and caught up as of 8 pm this evening.
So in my zest of all things Glee, I've watched the last 5 episodes on Hulu and I've been obsessively googling YouTube clips of the song and dance numbers. The only problem with YouTube is that it's such a dangerous time suck. And I have no will power and fell head first down the internet rabbit hole. So In addition to Glee, I've also watched Kristen Chenoweth (love!) clips not related to the show, Indina Menzel's 2004 Tony acceptance speech (little choked up), Matt Morrison's video diary on Glee (cutie-cutie), and a medley from Hairspray at one of the Tony awards.
I wish life had more singing and/or dance montages. It would make class super fun!
