Some other couple had a speedy wedding at my venue last weekend. Which means I'm not the first wedding there anymore. And surpisingly, I'm a little hurt by this.
By being the first wedding, I was a forgiving and knew that there was a learning curve with the venue. Communication wasn't great at first and Mike wanted to forgo the deposit and find anyother venue he was so fed up. (We didn't since I was wasn't going to start weddin gplanning all over again. And our save the dates were already sent out).
I didn't know I liked being the first wedding there so much. Now that it won't be mine. I feel like I did all the legwork and was the learning curve. Like I was practice, and this couple just swooped in and took a cut in line.
The bright side is that hopefully things will run a little smoother for us since the venue will have a better idea of what to do wedding day. Not as many first time jitters for them. And I know my wedding will still be special and wonderful no matter what, because it's my wedding. No matter if I'm the 1st or 1000th bride there. It's still my wedding. And there's nothing I can do to change this so I'll have to get over it. But I'm still pouting just a little.
Random thoughts and life doings of a spaz who is being forced to be a grownup against her will.

Black Friday
When you have a job in retail, you accept that you will have to work on black Friday. It's just the nature of the beast. You deal with the crazies and crowds of shoppers for a few hours and you just do it.
I requested to work the early shift on black Friday since I have lots of family coming in for the weekend. At the time I requested this, my store opened at 3 am. So I figured I could be at work by 2 am, finished by 10 am at the latest, giving me the rest of the day to spend with my family. Except now, we open at midnight. So I go to work at 11:45pm thanksgiving day, and work until 8:30 the next morning. Yeah.
I considered pulling an all nighter like my daap years. Staying up until I start work, then powering through the rest of my Friday along with everyone else in their right mind who slept through the night. But I know better. Just because I have done many all nighters, doesn't mean I did any of them well. Plus I'm 29 years old and I'm too old to be pulling that kind of college kid sh*t. I'll be cranky and snippy if I don't sleep, and I don't want to ruin anyone's time here just because I didn't get some rest.
So now I plan to have dinner a little earlier, and split my sleep time. I'll rest a few hours before I leave for work, and then again when I get back home. I'll get breakfast started and then head back up to bed for a few more hours. Yeah it's my house and I want to be the one hostessing, but in the milieu of family here are 2 moms and 3 domesticated men to take care of things. It's the best plan for less than ideal time line.
Retail is a business and I understand that they are just trying to be competitive with each other. And yeah, I'm going to grumble a little bit, but it's one day. Like I said, black friday is just part of the nature of the beast. But the beast didn't have to be a meanie either.

Far Far Away
Dr soc started his new job today in Charlotte. Or as I call it, far far away.
To say that I miss him is an understatement. I know it's only a few months of being apart and there will be visits so it's not like we're completely sequestered from each other. This far far away isn't unmanageable either, and I'm not worried about our relationship in the slightest either. But I feel lonely without him in town.
Ever since his brother's wedding in early July, I've spent every night with him or at his house (which is now on the market if anyone wants to buy a house in Lexington). There were a few nights he had to go to Charlotte (one for the interview and others for orientation), but I house/dog sat when he was gone. And even though we just got back from a vacation together and spent a ton of time together (and I don't think he got too sick of me, so phew), and he left only 2 days ago, it's just tough knowing he's a 7 hour drive away and I won't see him a half hour after I get off work. I've gotten used to sleeping next to him, or at the very least in his bed, curled up on my side of the bed but with my head on his pillow.
I know this is just a short period of time, and as dr soc put it: we spend 4 months of not sleeping next to each other, but we get to sleep together every night after that. I know I'm just being whiny right now and in the grand scheme of things it's a tiny blip. And this is by far not the worse thing I've ever gone through and the outcome is more than worth it.
But far far away is still far far away. And I just miss him. It's as simple as that.

American Idol
The world does not stop for American Idol. There I said it! I don't watch American Idol, I may be the only person who does not watch it, see #60 on the 100 things about me list.
Honestly, I've never had a problem with idol and it's menagerie of borderline circus freaks. You think I would like it because it's all about judging! But when it messes with what I judge as quality television, I decided the all consuming monster Idol is a bastard.
Why? Because I have to wait until April, yes April, for my beloved Glee to come back.
What do you think I want to watch?
A: a televised popularity contest under the guise of a singing contest?
or B: an ensemble cast containing several Tony nominated actors and Jane Lynch as a maniacal cheerleading coach at a high school in Ohio?
(hmm, when you put it that way, that's actually a tough call. But no, I don't watch idol and I have no intention of starting now)
But I know I'm in the minority. Because a lot of the people who watch Idol also watch Glee. They're probably relived that don't have to split focus. So I'm just going to sulk and pout that Fox IS stopping the world (well, the program that I want to watch) for it's asshole cash cow known as Idol.
Way to piss me off Fox, way to piss me of.

American Girl
As a young girl, I had my fair share of dolls. Lots of Barbies, of course, but I also had an American Girl Doll. And before I even had the doll, I read the books. All of 6 stories of each girl. (I'm referring strictly to the historical dolls by the way- there's a lot of other "dolls like me" the company offers that I never cared about)
There were three original dolls when the dolls debuted, Kristen, Molly and Samantha. Felicity came a little later and then Addy. After Addy, I was a little too old to be reading the American Girl books and was probably being forced to read whatever we were reading in Language Arts class (did I mention my middle school was a little pretentious? It wasn't english class, it was language arts. What's the difference anyway?)
Anyway, even though I haven't read those books in a long time, I remember them and encourage other readers to read them. And I shelve them quite often at work, so I know they are still adored like I did when I was in 3rd and 4th grade.
But I just found out that the Samantha and Kristen dolls have been retired. I know these dolls are not cheap, but I wanted Samantha because she was my favorite of the books that I read. What if another little girl wants her for that same reason? I mean, is there not enough room in the world of little girl's hearts to have another doll?
From a marketing standpoint I get it, if they aren't selling like the others, a doll that is expensive to buy and produce will be taken off the market.
But my sulky inner child is thinking: thanks you assholes for taking away that part of my childhood.

Ortho-tri something new
I hate my birth control.
This is a woman problem blog, so stop reading if you don't want to know.
While it is doing it's primary job, it makes one week a month absolute hell.
Oh no, not that week, the week before. My skin's worse, I feel like a whale, and I'll snap at anyone just for having the audacity to breath. I've always been moody the week before, but this is ridiculous. Frankly, I'm just a bitch. And I never even get to a good mood with these swings. No I go from I can somewhat tolerate people to wanting to throw myself off a cliff in 2 seconds. Or I want to strangle someone with their iPod cord. This isn't healthy.
It's not my body adjusting to the new kind of pill, it's had time to get use to it and it's just not working. So I hate it. I'm calling the doctor and I'm trying something new. Because I don't like feeling pathetic, and that's how I feel right now.

Boo to today
I feel like ass today. My nose is runny, my throat is raw from the runny, and the sneezing isn't doing anything except annoying the f*ck out of me. More bitching:
I went for a long run today, and it was a horrible run. No matter what direction I faced, I was running into really strong wind. And wind may not sound like a big deal, but it took me over an hour to run 4 miles. That's really slow, like retard child slow (I so don't care how un-pc that is). On top of the R.C. pace, I slipped on the one patch of black ice that hadn't melted. I caught myself, but I came down really hard on my palm and bruised it pretty bad. But there's no telltale purple discoloration, nope it looks perfectly fine but I can't even pet the dog w/out wincing.
Because it took fo- ev- er to run, I didn't have time to stretch before I had to shower for work. Does a scalding hot shower substitute for a good stretch? Nope, and I'm paying for that tomorrow when I can't walk. Because I'm already in a self loathing place, I gave myself a once over look before I left. And my suspicions are confirmed, I look and feel like a bloated whale in the most unflattering jeans I own (why do I still have those now I wonder?) It's like a rotten cherry on top.
I should be searching for articles/doing homework, but that's all I did this weekend. And I just don't want to read/write/study anything else. So I'm blogging instead.

Suck It Clariol
I am a brunette. Which is a fancy word for plain brown. It's not dark brown, light brown, or auburn. Not walnut, not chocolate, chestnut, honey brown, copper brown, or mahogany. I don't have golden highlights or espresso low lights. I'm just plain brown.
I don't dye my hair, and I've been told my color is beautiful. I smile and say thank you, but I don't feel that way. I feel plain and unnoticed most of the time, unable to stand out or ever able to achieve bombshell status. And even if I did start dying my hair, I don't even know which direction to go, nor do I care paying for a professional or the upkeep either.
I guess what irks me is that I hardly ever hear anyone dying their hair brown (unless trying to cover the gray that is). It's always more blond or more red. Rarely is it more brown. I've heard of enhancing with hazelnut highlight and/or sable low lights. And when a blond star dyes their hair brown, it's always "for a role." Never because she wants to be brunette. And the press is overjoyed when she goes back to blond. You never hear "she's a bottle brunette." So does anyone willingly dye brunette? Not really, I think they just do that because they bitterly can't go blond or red. So they do the lightest brown they can find and then highlight the hell out of it.
Don't even get me started on eyes. Damn things are plain brown too.
