So I never saw this coming, but I really love NFL football. Growing up in Kentucky we only have one sport, (UK basketball), and even when I lived in Cincinnati I really just didn't care about the bengals. But when I moved to Charlotte, I decided I would be become a Panthers superfan, because I figured my (eventual-to-be) husband is a die hard Browns fan so I would be watching football anyway, I may as well cheer for the local team.
Turns out, I love the Panthers. Even when I first moved here we weren't that great (we had first pick in the draft! Wait.), I decided to be loyal. And I just adore our first round pick from last year, the young man Luke Kuechly. After Luke had a monster game, I decided I just loved him.
However, the way I love him is like a momma lioness loves her cubs. He can stay in my spare bedroom, I'd tuck him in at night, and I'd make all his favorite foods (his NFL salary can cover the grocery bill it takes to feed a linebacker). And then I realized I had crossed yet another threshold into adulthood. Because my first thought was not: "I could be his girlfriend," it was: "I want to take care of him and make lunch."
Random thoughts and life doings of a spaz who is being forced to be a grownup against her will.

Young Love
When I saw the cover for the Hunter Hayes's album, I thought, oh look how young he is! Yes, I know I don't look like I'm in my early thirties, but he's 21 so he really is young, whereas I just look young. (I just realized I'm 10 years older than him).
Anyway, he's adorable. But he is definitely young, and his lyrics reflect that.
One of the lines from his new (catchy, if you ask me) single is:
Hunter Hayes: I don't want easy, I want crazy.
Aww, that silly young boy in love. Because only young love wants crazy. Or at least is willing to deal with it. Because after you hit a certain age, "crazy" becomes: so not putting up with that sh*t.

Wicked Hints
So, the fabulous musical Wicked is in Charlotte right now and I want to see it. Again, because I have already seen it twice, and it was fabulous both times. (Though more fabulous the first time because the tickets were a complete surprise and I jumped and screamed for joy when I opened them.)
Now I know better and that even if I dropped a million hints, my husband is male and more than likely wouldn't pick up on those million hints and "surprise" me with tickets. And even if he did pick up on them, he's not good at keeping track of my schedule (though that could work highly to my advantage if I ever need to get away with something...) so he wouldn't know when to get tickets w/out spoiling the surprise somehow. So if I want to see this musical, I'm better off just buying them myself and telling him when we're going.
Turns out of all the times it's showing, I can make about 3 of them. And of those three times the cheapest seats start around $60. Which, I like the play and all, but meh, I have seen it. So it's a moot point really. Oh well, I can still be a little disappointed I won't have a fun night out though.

The itsy bitsy spider
I'm not terrified of spiders. Now by no means do I like them. But I can see one, not freak out too bad and kill it need be. I don't point and scream spider! and wait for my husband to run in and kill it with his shoe. BUT. I will say having a husband who will kill them for me is quite nice. And there are always exceptions because turns out I am quite scared of the really big ones.
Like when we were on our honeymoon. Every now and again we had a few spiders in in our room which didn't surprise me that much since we were in the rainforest. Most were small and whoever saw it first took care of it. But one time I when I opened the drapes there was this huge spider that was hiding behind them.
me: -pointing and screaming- Honey! Spider! Really big spider! Get it!
mike: It's ok, I got it. -He heroically smacks it a few times with his shoe for good measure-
me: Phew! Thank you.
mike: You're welcome.
me: You know, I'm normally not that scared of spiders. But that one was huge!
mike: It was pretty big.
me: Yeah, that was definitely a "boy killing" spider.

Gift with Purchase
Over thanksgiving weekend I made chili for dinner the night before to feed the masses. It was super easy what with just browning the meat, throwing all the ingredients into the crock pot and letting it simmer for 6-8 hours. I've never had my own crock pot, but Mike does. And while when I moved in stuff became "ours," we still know who came with what.
So when my parents arrived, they saw the chili simmering on the kitchen island. And my mom, having shared a kitchen with me, knew that I didn't have one. So she says to me:
mom: I didn't think you had a crock pot Sarah?
me: I don't. It came with the boy!

Boy Crazy
L: I was kind of disappointed when I found out I was going to have a younger brother, instead of a younger sister. But then my mom explained that I wouldn’t have to share as many of my toys or clothes with a younger brother, and then it was all good. It turned out pretty well, I think.
me: was I the only one who wanted an older brother so I could date his friends?
LB: YES
L: Why doesn’t this surprise me?
M: boy crazy since birth.
me: just as I suspected.

Hear What You Want to Hear
me: I'm going shopping and returning today.
what dr soc heard: I'm going shopping in maternity today.
Oh yeah, he freaked out a little bit. But once I started laughing at him he started to breath again.
Me (laughing): Honey, don't you think you would be the first person I would tell?
dr soc: I certainly hope so! I don't want find out by reading it on your blog!
Silly boys, so sensitive about these things. ;) <--did I really just put an emoticon?

OK
I think it's fairly obvious things didn't end well with my ex. It was a pretty epic crash and burn if you ask me. But that doesn't negate the fact that for a decent portion of our time together I loved him and cared about him. With that said, I don't want anything bad to happen to him. He was a nice enough guy and maybe he'll make another girl happy with his mediocrity.
But with that said, I don't exactly wish him well either. Because I don't exactly want anything good to happen to him either. Because well, he's my ex-fiance and I'm just not that benevolent.
So, on that note: I wish him ok. And my friend Shayne put it best: may you project on a sideways trajectory for the rest of your life.

Dads
**I originally posted this on the 13th, but since it's father's day I am yanking it for today's post**
Conversation between me and my mom after I meet Dr soc's parents:
Mom: So, what did his parent's think about you?
Me: They're really nice and seem to like me enough. He said his dad liked me right away.
Mom: Yeah, dad's always like you.
Me: umm, ew?
She recalled the Eagle Ceremony (boy scouts) that we all went to when I was in high school. And it was prom season and people thought the newly winged eagle didn't have a date yet. Turns out he did, he had asked her the day or 2 before, but you know boys, they don't talk about things like that. But I'm there and I'm holding court in my own high school way with my peer group and the rest of the dads start elbowing eagle's dad and say " why doesn't he ask her there?"
But I guess she's right in a way. Because I think most of my boyfriend's parents have like me. Well, not all of them liked me, but they figured I wasn't a bad person and didn't really form an opinion on me good or bad. And while I know it's ultimately the mom I really need to impress and get to like me, having the dad's good graces never really hurt the process.
But still, it sounds a little creepy.
Anyway, Happy Fathers Day!

Vampire Boyfriend
True Blood season 3 came back last night. Sweet Jesus the wait is over!
First I will say I love that my boyfriend is tall dark and handsome. I look at dr soc I just think "oh me want." And I've always been attracted to darker hair guys, even though I've probably dated more blonds (or mousy hair) than anything else.
But as soon as 6'4" pale gorgeous powerful Eric Northman shows up on screen I think "I looooove him." And I find the whole he could kill me thing strangely attractive.
I don't ask questions. I just want.

Physics
Me: "wait, is this physics?"
Guy: "well, kinda..."
Me: "oh, well then I don't care anymore."
Someone was trying to explain baseball stats or something to me, but well, ya know. Once I realized I was getting a physic's discussion I knew I wouldn't understand. I've never really understood physics, nor do I have any intention to try to do so.
So here's my personal physics conundrum: once I start falling in love (the rare times that I do), I can't stop. Object in motion will remain in motion sorta thing right?
I am falling in love with Dr Soc. Yep. I knew I was before he even told me about the interview of the far far away job. And when presented with the fear of him leaving, I told myself to slow down and don't fall as a mode of self preservation.
So what do I do? I start falling harder and faster.
Dammit. Suck it Sir Issac Newton, explain that to me.

Narrow It Down
K: You remember Russ, from climb time?
me: umm, not really. What did he look like?
K: dark hair, glasses, climber build.
Me: nope, still not ringing a bell. I'd have to see a picture, do we have a yearbook?
K: oh he didn't go to high school with us, he was older.
Me: ah, well, still no.
K: he told us to not talk to boys. Surely you remember him, you flirted with him.
Me: I flirted with everyone! Like that narrows it down.
Everyone else: *snort* good point.

Boy Talk
A tweet from me the other day:
"glad we've been spending time together :)" <--someone decode boy speak for me.
The response from a friend:
@spazzella translation: "I want to spend more time with you, but am avoiding creepdom by omitting saying your clothes don't need to attend"
Ohhhhhhhh. Snort. Gotcha, thanks!

The Webs We Weave
I reconnected with a drinking buddy one night in the summer. It turns out, that same night he had just come back from an all day drive. (he's one of those people that talks on the phone and drives, which I do not approve of, ( I also suspect he's guilty of texts while driving, which I definitely do not approve of) but I wasn't in the car with him to voice my disprovable. Anyway, his buddy helped him stay awake/alert on the drive home by talking to him most of the drive.
Since my drinking friend and I had arranged to meet that night, at some point my name came up in their conversation. Buddy 2 knew who I was becasue we had all gone to (high) school together. But he also told my drinking buddy:
My buddy: "he said you were obsessed with him in high school."
Me: (laughing) "Actually, it was early middle school, but yeah, huge crush."
Buddy 1 starts cracking up becasue I didn't even try to deny it. The night continues and our conversation moves on. But Buddy 1 told the former crush I confirmed his story because a few days later, guess who's requesting to be my friend on facebook?
Ah the tangled webs we weave.

It's Not a Party Until Somone Looses Their Pants
Five years ago I was a bridesmaid in my friends' wedding and I kissed her brother (who was a groomsman) at the reception. So after calling dibs on him (on the aisle pairing), flirting with him the past 2 nights and then some drunken kisses, a hookup seemed like the logical next step. Except that night I was sharing a room with 3 girlfriends, my dress was so tight it made me light headed (that may have been the open bar though), my dyed shoes hurt like a mthr fcker, and I was tired from the mass amounts of running around that being a bridesmaid entails. A hook up wasn't on the front of my mind.
A bunch of us hit the after party, and groomsman and I separated to hang out with our respective people. Somehow I ended up with is bag because he was planning on changing or crashing in my room. But I really just wanted to go to bed, so I decided to return to my room and do just that. But knowing I had his stuff, a roommate and I made an attempt to find him for 10 minutes. One of his friends told me was was looking for me (I'm assuming it was to get his stuff), and wandering around the hotel and he may or may not have lost his pants.*
*it was actually his shoes he has lost. But we thought it was pants at the time and pants are about a billion times funnier
This information, and being a little drunk and very tired, was too much for my metal threshold. My friend and I went back to our room and went to bed. But as I entered the room, the other two girls who were in there asked me: Where's A?
Me: "Apparently, he's wandering around with no pants looking for me.
As I turn out the light and fall into bed:
"I just can't deal with a boy with no pants."

Well Played
Remember how I wanted to pounce my friend's hot younger brother? And then when I saw him over Christmas last year I fully indulged a high school crush on him? *
*if I ever did get a steamy tryst with him (and oh yes, it would be steamy), I would never ever ever be able to look his sister in the eye again. She however, finds the situation highly amusing (because what friend of hers hasn't crushed on him? He's a freaking pilot in the air force and he's hot! I'm telling you, steamy) and would point and laugh at me while I hung my head in shame. (Worth it though? I think yes)
Anyway, I lust him and everyone knows it. But we all live far away from each other, so we only see each other on holidays and special occasions. Like last night.
T: We're going to trivia at 9 w/my two** brothers
Me: I'm in! See you soon
**the other brother is 18, so legal, but not in my cougar range
----later that evening after a few trivia rounds----
Me: you totally knew that when you said two brothers, I was coming right?
T: Oh yeah.
Me: Ha!
You know me well my friend. Well played. Well played. And thanks for the eye candy, Merry Christmas to me!

Sign me up for Couger
So I just watched 17 Again and while it was predictable, it was delightful none the less. And I'm not ashamed to admit, I think Zac Effron is a cutie. But besides him and his pretty pretty face and that perfect hair that you just want to run your fingers through (ahem. sorry), here are a few boys I'd go cougar for:
Pics brought to you by the interwebs. (do I need to credit the image or something?)
Zac Effron:

age 22. Hi pretty boy
Daniel Radcliffe

age 20. Boy wears a suit better than most men.
This cutie from Fame, Asher Book:

age 21. He can sing and I love him.
And HRH Prince Harry of Wales:

age, 25. Prince. 'Nuff said.
And I don't feel dirty about liking him becasue he's only 2 years younger than me.
Oh, and I'd totally take his brother on the right there too, becasue they're both adorable and do-gooders and over 6 feet tall and have pretty queen's english accents. And they're princes. Only Will's a few weeks older than me, thus putting him out of my cougar range which is not what this blog is about.
Here's to prowling! (rawr)

Mystery Man
There's a guy in my chemistry class that I've noticed, and I can't decide if I like him or not. I don't know his name, how old he is or even if he's a nice person. I don't know any of that stuff. But I know he runs and he seems smart. And from what I've heard by eavesdropping (oh, like you've never done it), he's a little older than the average college student (how much I don't know) and he has a dry sense of humor. He also sounds like a borderline-know-it-all-jack-ass at times too, but I really can't tell.
He's got a strong jaw and I've noticed his eyes. From my quick scans, I can see he's only a few inches taller than me, so clearly, too short. But he has the swagger of a guy with confidence, the kind of confidence that only comes from age and experience. But as I've just mentioned, he seems like a borderline jack ass. I have a feeling that if I did ever talk to him, I wouldn't like him. Something about him seems off to me, I'm not really sure how to explain it. I don't even feel like I want to be friends with this guy.
And yet, I find myself inexplicably noticing him and looking at the back of his neck every class. And talking about him here. So what is it that is slightly drawing me to this guy? What is making me want to learn his name? Why does he stand out a bit from the other 140 or so people in my class? Why is he mystery dude? And I'm intrigued by being intrigued.
But honestly, after the final, I will probably never see this nameless, too short might be a jack ass guy again. So this is a moot point really. And now, I don't think I ever want to know his name. That way he can remain nameless might be a jackass guy from my chemistry class. Hmm, long title for a guy I don't want to know about.

That Guy
Default crush and I made out once, way before he was default crush. We were both just out of long relationships and just very sad. So I told him to kiss me goodnight. He obliged, and it escalated to a high school make out session, but nothing more. And then the next morning, he sent a text apologizing and said it would never happen again. And it didn't.
Until a few weeks ago that is. Because as we know, he became default crush and put out after I threw myself at him.
But now, he won't talk to me. And while that hurts, I'm more upset over loosing my friend. But what I'm confused about is when we kissed he apologized the next day. We sleep together and he ignores me completely. I didn't think he was that guy. I think that's what disappoints me the most. And that I was stupid enough to not realize it until after the fact.

Circle of a Crush
Default crush doesn't like me back. I can just tell.
Well, this isn't the first time a guy hasn't returned the feelings, and it probably won't be the last time either (cries!). And there have been times I haven't returned the feelings, so it's a two way street.
Yeah, it sucks, a guy I really liked doesn't like me back. But it's life. And maybe getting this guy out of my system will lead me to someplace or thing or one I wouldn't have seen before.
But this whole boy not liking me back thing, well, it just feels a little high school to me. And while I liked high school, I sure as hell don't want to go back.
My crush though, is a guy I went to high school with. Same class too. So irony, you have not been lost on me.
