The other day my coworker's husband brought something by for her and they had a quick little peck as he was leaving. I remarked how cute it was and how it reminded me of all the times I had visited dr soc's office and he wouldn't touch me. 😄
Seriously. In his defense at the time he didn't have his school's version of tenure, so by minding his P's and Q's to be as professional as possible he refused pretty much all physical contact whatsoever if on campus together. No peck on the cheek, no hug goodbye, no gentle touch for guidance, no encroachment into either personal bubble. Zero physical contact. He wouldn't even hold my hand.
But now that I have given him a child (and he has tenure) he has relaxed enough to be professionally affectionate. He figured if his coworkers will hug me hello/goodbye, holding my hand on occasion wouldn't professionally ruin him. Not to mention I would have been super pissed (and probably scene causing upset) as I waddled to the baby shower his coworkers threw for us if he had refused to hold my hand when my fingers were too puffy to wear my wedding bands!
Random thoughts and life doings of a spaz who is being forced to be a grownup against her will.

They
I've been using the more grammatically correct (at least I think it's more grammatically correct) term of "they" rather than "he/she/it" when referencing my baby. It's just something I've said whenever referring to the baby even before we didn't find out the sex. But whenever I say "they" people ask if I'm having twins. I explain no, I just don't know what they are, I'm not about to say "it" and now it's just habit. And I figure, it's only 15 more weeks (OMG just 15?) so while I still have to explain, it won't be for much longer. (seriously, only 15 more weeks?)
Well I had a doctor's appointment on Friday and my doctor was running a little late. When she arrives at the office she jumps right into work like the pro that she is, but I understand it can take some time to orient yourself after rushing from one thing to another. So she asks me how I'm doing/feeling (she has a great bedside manner btw) and I say something along the lines of pretty good, bla bla bla, they're really kicking and moving in there now.
She's about to check on them with this heartbeat-movement-hearer-thing and says "and you're having twins right?"
I, of course, handle this like a grown up and freak-the-f*ck-out. Because OMG, twins? Dr soc and I are in shock stammering emphatic nos and that all our ultrasounds have found only baby in my tummy.
My doctor by this point is laughing and remembers that no, it is just one baby, but she wonders why she thought twins (once again, OMG) for a minute there. I say it was probably due to me saying they since we don't know the sex of the baby and I don't want to say it, so it's my fault for the confusion.
But ok, I have got to stop referring to baby as "they" from now on. I'm confusing my doctor, who I hope to god knows a lot more than me and doesn't need to be confused.
They kicked in agreement.
Dammit!

Mystery Date
With all the Buzz Is Back excitement in Charlotte, one of the fun things offered was a Hugo bobble head to every ticket holder. And since I love stuff, I suggested we go to that game since I had the night off. The hornets didn't win, it was a lot of sloppy play (at least that's what dr soc and my neighbor said, hell if I know what sloppy play actually looks like), but it was still a lot of fun.
Well anyway, we got to the game well before tip-off for the bobble head so we had a decent amount of time to look at the court and how the arena was laid out for basketball. It made dr soc think of another time at the arena.
dr soc: Wasn't this how it was set up for when we saw the Trans-Siberian Orchestra?
me: Um, I don't really know, since I've never seen them.
dr soc: Wait, what? Didn't we come here for that?
me: Nope. We were here for Circ Du Soleil, but I've never seen the Trans-Siberian Orchestra.
dr soc: ~starts blushing~ Oh. Um...I..yeah.
me: ~lovingly patting his shoulder~ Must be thinking of some other date dear.
dr soc: oh...
me: ~cackling~ Bet you enjoyed that date more than the awkward tent you're in now!

Pot Calling the Kettle Black
I was in my happy place Target the other night when I saw a woman breastfeeding. Which I have no problem with and after reading enough reddit stories of some passerby being upset by a boob sighting, the nursing mom defending her choice and having a nurse-ins, declaring anyone offended by breastfeeding anti-family, etc, I know that the law is pretty much on woman's side (for once) and that she can breastfeed whenever and wherever she see fit. Personally, I would prefer that a little discretion and some sort of cover is used, but I think a little discretion is a good thing in most cases in general.
Anyway, this woman was walking down the aisle, the baby strapped into some sort of carrier nursing away. While there wasn't a nip-slip due to the her shirt covering one and the baby's mouth covering the other, there was a lot of her shirt pulled up in general. I was a little startled and may have raised my eyebrows by the copious amount of stomach/top/and side boob exposed at first glance, but whatever. The nursing girl had a few other people shopping with her, 2 other women and a girl toddler no more than 18 months old. The toddler is trying to keep up as fast as her little legs can carry her and playing with the hem of her shirt at the same time. But they all passed by, rounded the corner and I continued shopping.
Then I hear from the next aisle over (directed at the toddler): "Pull your shirt down!
Which, wasn't that a little pot calling the kettle black? Oh well.

Brotherly Love
cashier: Oh wow, you two look so much alike. You must be siblings.
me: Nope. We're husband and wife though. So that's not creepy.
cashier: Oh, uh. Well, they say significant others start to look more and more alike as time goes on...
me: So they say.
Maybe it was due to the fact that we both have dark hair and that Mike was wearing his glasses at the time that the guy thought we looked alike. We've heard the sibling comparison once before. I've heard the look alike over time thing too, but really, it's just on the icky side of things no matter when you hear it.

Stereotype
me: I put it off as long as possible. But I had to do an image search for "naughty librarian." Ugh, people are disgusting.
mike: Um, why?
me: Project 2 for class was information spaces or librarian stereotypes I chose librarian stereotypes, and unfortunately, one of those stereotypes is dirty. I mean, when I say librarian, what's the image that comes to your mind?
mike: (smiling) Glasses and sexy as hell.
me: Nice. But before you married one.*
mike: (smiling sheepishly) Ok, yeah, glasses and old.
me: Yep.
mike: Interesting. So, what you get when you enter librarian into google?
me: Old ladies with glasses shushing. Or slutty women in glasses in a short skirt. I guess it's hard to read if you have on pants.
*Ok, one in training. Still counts enough for this conversation.

Best Acronym Ever
I'm on the knot reading etiquette message boards. And because some brides take all their time debating god knows what, they don't have time to use their words, so they abbreviate or use an acronym for every single fcking thing.
So idk wth ppl r saying.
There is however, one that cracks me up. Someone posted to the message boards asking if her wedding date was a bad date. And the general consensus was check w/the key members of who you want there, and if the date works for them to go for it. Just be sure to send out stds.
Now I don't know which std is more wedding related, or how well something like the clap travels via mail. But I'm just going to say that if I received a std from someone I probably don't want to go to their wedding!

Full Circle
Dr soc and I took this weekend to visit Lexington and select some of the major wedding things. When we first discussed marriage I told him I wanted to get married in Lexington, since it's where I grew up and it's where we met, and he agreed.
So we get into town and are heading out to appointments, but dr soc needed to get new shoes. He had stained them when cutting my parents grass (such a good future son-in-law!), and since I will never turn down a chance to go shoe shopping, we add that to our list of errands. I tried on a fabulous pair of royal blue Betsy Johnson shoes that were a half-size too small, but they were fabulous and on sale so I had to at the very least try them on. (I considered them for my wedding shoes, but I decided that cutting off a few toes to wear them all wedding day long wasn't worth it). But dr soc eventually found a pair he liked and on sale, so we start walking back to the car to grab lunch and then look at some venues.
We're about to cross into the parking lot, and we're waiting on this one last car to turn. As it drives past, I noticed it has a school insignia vanity plate, which I quickly read, judged and forgot about. I look to my other side to see if we can finally cross when dr soc says "oh my god," and laughs a little nervously.
me: What?
dr soc: That, that was my ex-girlfriend. Sh*t.
me: Which one?
dr soc: K.
me: Ohhh. Ok.
dr soc (flustered): Hell, I haven't seen her in something like 3 years. I move from Lexington and the weekend that I come back with my fiance, to look at wedding stuff, I see her. I guess things come full circle.
me: --Snort--
I laughed because I know their history, (well, his side) so I know this was an ugly breakup, a big o'l mess later totally Lifetime movie* story worth. And because I am supportive, I end up getting a major kick out of this and giggle over it for the next 2 days at his discomfort. Yep, supportive. Now I just wonder if we'll see the other ex when we go take our engagement pictures.
*If he was the central character of the movie, the movie would end happily by him receiving my eharmony profile. But since it's a Lifetime movie, the movie would more than likely feature his ex as the main character and portray him as the calous guy)

Linked
Hey, whats with my ex boyfriends wanting me to join their professional network on Linked In?
Yeah, I have a profile on Linked In. I use the term profile loosely though. I have something like half a profile with my name, my most recent library job, and my two schools, but that's it. Not even a picture. I updated my profession as recent grad shortly after I graduated, but that's about it. I don't even know if I changed my city.
But every now and again I get those so-and-so would like to add you to their professional network emails. After I get a few I log in, accept the request and that's about it. But the last two were sent within a few days of each other and they were both from ex-boyfriends. Which struck me as a funny coincidence, considering about a month ago the ex-fiance sent me a request. (Right around the time dr soc and I started ring shopping. Yeah, little awkward). That was the one request I took care of in a professional time frame though. I was going to wait a while but then I didn't want to keep getting reminders from him/Linked In, so I logged in rejected his request in a timely fashion.
Anyway, I just thought it was weird that some of my ex's think I'm worth some sort link on a professional level.
